London Is Like America Except...Ass Backwards.

HOLY BOLLOCKS I'M IN LONDON!

before i get into the story, let me tell you that the past 24 hours have been the most exciting, chaotic and depressing of my life. it all started on friday, when we had a lovely snow storm come the day of my departure....

Sunday morning rolled around and of course, if natasha has some where to go.... bring on the snow! its a sure thing, that when i have plans, we get a snow storm. so like clockwork, friday brings in a wonderful snow storm that potentially could hit new england. wonderful, right where i fly out from. so we leave at 10 get to the airport at 2ish and meet up with my brother and grab a bit to eat (btw, my flight wasnt until 7:45 pm) . Afterwards i began to met up with the girls going on the trip. I met up with lauren s., erin, kristin and a girl we met at the airport, lauren.

after our long and some what tearful goodbyes, we shuffled on through security.

1st highlight of our trip: freaking out about security we are standing in line, asking each other what we are supposed to do, what do we bring ect... every question in the book. So going through security we all get cleared... except for kristin.  the security officer brings her to the side to search her backpack, and at this point, shes beginning to freak out. while trying to think of what could be in her bag that was not allowed..she couldnt come up with anything. and then came the answer.... a jar of peanut butter. planning ahead for the lack of peanut butter in the UK, Kristin's plans were ended when the security took the peanut butter, and threw it in the trash can. (as a lover of peanut butter..painful to watch, let me tell you)

2nd highlight of the trip: as we are sitting in the terminal waiting for the flight to arrive, a crowd of officers and airport employees swarm around an unknown figure and begin to walk past us. As this mob continued, erin realized that it was the governor of massachusetts. now being a new yorker, i had no idea who this man was. and yes, that is my excuse of not watching the news as often as i should.

3rd "highlight" of the trip: after we boarded the plane, we sat and sat and sat and you guessed it ... sat. Almost about and hour after our flight was scheduled to leave, we finally took off. mind you during this hour we were thrilled to hear the lovely sounds of a baby cry at the top of his lungs... on repeat... for an hour. AWESOME.

4th highlight of the trip: i quickly realized that being 6' 1" is absolutely wonderful... nothing is better than being squished in a seat with no leg room for 6 hours!
Note to self: buy a seat with extra leg room next time... then maybe you'll be able to feel your toes.

Once we arrived in london, erin, henry and i took a car to our residents halls. it is then when i realized how spoiled i am at roger williams. lets just say these rooms are small, and old....very old!

With about on hour of sleep, i was...well moody to say the least. We were given our rooms and go figure natasha wins again, DING DING DING... you get to live... ALONE! Once again go figure, henry and erin are in the same building where i am not. lucky me, i get to live on the top floor of the decrepit old building by my lonesome. I quickly went downstairs to request a room change to be in the same building as the other two. but here it goes again, the lovely old "mrs. hannagian" told me it was best to stay an orphan locked up by myself.... aka "you wont make new friends if you live with your current ones". now i can see her point of view, but lets be real, i didn't come all the way to london to sit in my room with my friends from home. i could have done that back in rhode island for a hell of a lot cheaper. so biting my tongue i was banished to my cell to unpack.

5th highlight of the trip- with interest in locating a cell phone and bedding, the three of us set out to discover london. first thing noticed, the paint on the street what direction to look for traffic. Lucky of us dumb american, we have a little reminded that we have to look in the opposite direction.

p.s their escalators are also backwards, going up is on the left and down on the right. and if you would like to stand still on the escalator, you must stand on the right side, and the left lane is for those who want to walk up the escalator. news flash... they're just as fast as each other, so relax!

6th highlight of the trip- continuing on the traffic, as we all know, the Brit's drive on the opposite side of the car on the opposite side of the road. overall, to much to take in.

Upon returning to our dorms with no bedding and the cheapest cell phones we could find, erin and i sat in my room and relaxed for the first time since we had left the US. noticing that my room was boiling hot i went to go open the door to create a cross draft. this resulting in highlight of the trip, #7.

As if i wasnt frustrated enough with the pain in the ass secretary down stairs and the bad directions to another store, that did NOT sell a convertor, or bedding ... this just topped it all of. Swinging the door open i placed my foot on the tile outside my door. Unaware that it was slippery with socks, i legit (pardon my language) ate shit. face first belly flop on to the ground... and it even gets better. because i wasnt fully unpack my suitcase was by the door. sure enough i fall, my face hits the suitcase and next thing u know...blood.

my teeth it my lips, which hit my gums which hit my suitcase.... WONDERFUL! just want i wanted. needless to say, i bursted into tear. big tough girl i am! i know the picture doesn't look that bad, but i swear it was gross, painfully and bloody. i can still feel the teeth marks in my gums....gross i know.

At the end off all of this we finally went to a pub, and relaxed with some new people and drank some new beer. and let me tell you, that beer we delicious (oh and LEGAL!). Then the night was completed with a much needed skype session with my family. <3
